Apple Pay × Complex Shop Soccer Promotion

Apple Pay partner funding made a 10% soccer promotion possible. Making it worth using took a curated World Cup commerce destination that met narrow product and content requirements and stayed useful for more than seven weeks.

An offer the marketplace usually could not make

In my experience, Complex Shop’s marketplace margins left little room for a customer discount. Apple Pay’s funding made the 10% offer possible: 10% off select purchases made with Apple Pay, during a World Cup summer.

Funding made the discount possible, but shoppers still needed a reason to use it. The products had to meet Apple's requirements and make sense to soccer fans.

Curate what could qualify

Every product had to meet two requirements. Apple was specific about which products and content could carry the offer. We also needed products a soccer fan would want to shop during the World Cup, not a discount bin assembled around an offer.

I remember Complex already carrying relevant soccer product: adidas × Willy Chavarria, Nike soccer-footwear silhouettes, and national-team jerseys. I selected from that existing assortment rather than sweeping in every soccer item on hand. Each choice had to qualify for the program and make sense on the World Cup page.

Build the destination

We brought the offer and the edit together on one dedicated Complex Shop page: a soccer destination for the World Cup window. The page put the discount next to products a shopper might want to buy.

I led product selection and internal marketing. My team handled page execution, with my direct report managing the destination day to day. The Shop page went live June 9 alongside a sponsored Apple Pay/Complex Instagram collaboration post.

Coordinate the activation

The page anchored a broader internal marketing plan: lookbook and editorial ideas, newsletter support, social distribution, and partner-facing promotion, all pointing back to the same destination. I coordinated that work so the offer, products, and World Cup theme all pointed to the same page.

The sponsored Instagram collaboration post went live with the page; the rest of the package was the plan built around it.

Keep it live through the event

This was not a launch morning. The destination ran June 9–July 31, more than seven weeks across the World Cup summer, and it had to stay worth visiting the whole time. My team kept it running; I coordinated the broader activation.

My recollection is that the promotion became a major marketing feature, Apple brought major-partner traffic, and substantial product sold through the program.

Looking back from September 2026, the funding covered the discount. We still had to put products on the page that customers would want to browse.

Limits

The final live page is not preserved. Sales and Apple's partner traffic are my recollection; they are unmeasured and not attributed to Apple Pay alone.
